Today is Day of Ashura

Today, Thursday, Sept 20 is Day of Ashura.

Ashura - 10th of Muharram 1440 is on Thursday Sept 20th

Assalaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu, "His is what is in the heavens and what is in the earth, and He is the High, the Great. The heavens may almost rend asunder from above them and the angels sing the praise of their Lord and ask forgiveness for those on earth; now surely Allah is the Forgiving, the Merciful" (42:4-5) Alhamdulillah, always Allah, the Most Merciful, continues to shower us with His Blessings and multiplies for us the opportunities to be forgiven. The fasting of the day of Ashura will expiate a past year of sins! Abu Qatadah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam) was asked about observing As-Saum (the fast) on the tenth day of Muharram, and he replied, "It is an expiation for the sins of the preceding year." [Muslim]. The options to fast the 10th of Muharram, starting with the most preferable according to the sunnah of the Prophet (sallallahu'alaihi wa sallam), are:

  1. Fast the 9th (Wednesday Sept 19th) and the 10th of Muharram (Thursday Sept 20th)

  2. Fast the 10th (Thursday Sept 20th) and the 11th of Muharram (Friday Sept 21st)

  3. Fast the 10th of Muharram (Thursday Sept 20th)

It is optional to also fast all three days for those who wish to do so. Any of these options will have, InshaAllah, the reward of the expiation of the sins of the past year. May Allah forgive all our sins!
