“By the dawn; By the ten nights (of the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). And by the night when it passes. Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception?” (89:1-5).
The oath of Allah (swt) by the ten nights of Dhul Hijja sparks in the heart of those who perceive and understand, the magnitude and the blessings of these days. The whole universe is witnessing the greatest season of celebrating the praises of Allah (swt). The honored guests of Allah, from every distant path, are heading to the Ancient House (Al Masjid Al Haram, The Kaaba), answering wholeheartedly the call of Allah: “And proclaim to the people the Hajj [pilgrimage]. They will come to you on foot and on every lean camel. They will come from every distant pass” (22:27). Their hearts, bodies and souls are rhyming with the praises: “Labayka Allahumma Labayk. Labayka La Sharika Laka Labayk. In’nal Hamda Wan’Neemata Laka Wal Mulk. La Sharika Lak (Here I am at your service, O Allah! Here I am at your service; no partner can be associated with You. Indeed, all Praises and Blessings and Favors are Yours, and the Kingdom of the Universe. No partner can be associated with You).”
It dawns on one that the guests of Allah are indeed honored, when we hear the Prophet (pbuh) said, "Whoever performs Hajj to this Kaaba and does not violate the laws of Allah or commit sins (while performing Hajj), will come out as sinless as a newborn child (just delivered by his mother)."
Also honored, is every single believer who is granted the favor to witness these blessed days. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “There is no day wherein any good action is more beloved to Allah (swt) than in these ten days (the first ten days of Dhul Hijja).” The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) inquired: ”Not even striving on the path of Allah?” “Not even striving in the path of Allah,” he replied (peace be upon Him), “with the exception of that person who left with his life and wealth (in the path of Allah) and did not return with any of it (i.e., is martyred).“
Should not such tremendous blessings urge every believer to multiply his/her efforts in doing good and acting in a better way of good during these days?
And more and more blessings are actually bestowed upon the believers by Al Wadud (swt) during this season of blessings. Did you know that fasting on the day of Arafa expiates two years of sins? The Prophet (pbuh) said: "For the fasting of the day of Arafa, I am counting on Allah to reward it with the expiation of sins of a year before it and a year after it."
Truly, with all these blessings, the one who will not be admitted into Paradise is the one who refuses to enter it. The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said, “Everyone of my Ummah will enter Paradise, except those who refuse.” He was asked: “Who will refuse?” He (pbuh) said, “Whosoever obeys me, shall enter Paradise. And whosoever disobeys me, has refused (to enter Paradise).” Obeying the Prophet (pbuh) during these days is to be sure to not stand against our own selves as obstacles to reaping such blessings – not to be dormant, lazy, or wronging ourselves!
